St. George Universal Syrian
Orthodox Reesh Church, Kuwait
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
The major achievement we can acquire is witnessing the growth of our Sunday School students that bears virtuous fruit with teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ is the foremost aim of Mor Athanasius Jacobite Sunday school (MAJSS) established on 17th March 1974 which is affiliated to Malankara Jacobite Sunday School Association (MJSSA). The institution was known as St. George Universal Syrian Orthodox Sunday school in early years. In January 2013 the Sunday school was renamed as Mor Athanasius Jacobite Sunday school under the patronage of St. George Universal Syrian Orthodox Reesh Church- Kuwait. MAJSS vision is to make our children to grow with ‘Worship, Study & Service’ to become a “fruit bearing tree” of our Church.
MAJSS grew from a handful of students to 545 students during these 46 years having annexure at Fahaheel and Abassiya with main Sunday school at NECK. Together we made this institution grow within Kuwait, with the blessings of God. The teachers of MAJSS have committed their invaluable service and time, for the sheer love they have for children and give knowledge with biblical, moral principles and values. Even though there might be virtual boundaries our aim is that each child should get a platform to bring out their inborn talents and be a part of the Sunday school throughout this whole pandemic and we are proud to say our Sunday school is one of the first, to hold many of these programs.
The year 2020 is an unforgettable year around the world with the Covid-19 pandemic that took control over our life. The lockdown imparted us to have more patience in life and taught us to accept each other in all situations and also to live with minimalism principles. During this pandemic, nothing has stopped us in spreading the Word of God to our children, instead we utilized this opportunity to reach out to children virtually with a better form of input.
The most significant celebration of Pentecost day was celebrated with our students by involving them each day by learning the nine Fruit of the Holy Spirit in ten days of the “Kaathiripinte Divasangal”. The students from LKG to grade X, each had been assigned with a project to prepare for Kaathiripinte Divasangal”. The children learned the importance of having the Fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives. They prepared meaningful presentations about each fruit of Holy Spirit which was presented to their classmates and to fellow students during virtual joint assembly conducted every month. Children showed intense interest in learning the scripture during this lockdown period.
Even though the summers get hot and unbearable, the dedication of the students and teachers always finds a way to learn the Word of God. The virtual JSVBS ensures that students always stay connected to God throughout the year, and of course the pandemic was just another wall the teachers and students obliterated and moved forward as fruit bearing children of God.
If the children are the seed of God, then the MAJSS teachers are the elements of nature, those of which nurture the children. To help these teachers in their endeavors, we had organized a virtual motivation class and MJSSA training program to “become a good steward of God” and prepare them to develop the students so that they can succeed in their journey in being fruit bearing children of God.
By Almighty’s grace, we believe the annual certification, recognition and appreciation can be made possible to all students who have passed X standard from MAJSS through the convocation ceremony.
We are obliged and give our sincere gratitude to Patriarchal Vicars (Metropolitans), Church Vicars, Presidents, Headmasters, Teachers and all students who were part of this Sunday school. The objective of MAJSS is to strengthen child’s faith in Lord Jesus Christ and build them into a better citizen of our church and lead the country in the righteous path.
